The problem for Ukraine is that Trump is wielding a very big stick, which, among others, involves the supply of weapons, intelligence sharing and starlink. This being said, there is little guarantee that any of these would continue even if a deal were signed, given Trump's notoriously unreliable treatment of allies. So there seems to be little incentive for Ukraine to sign this deal, but OTOH to continue the war with both Russia and the US as adversaries is not a pleasant prospect either.
I just watched your Thursday interview on Times Radio and felt FINALLY, someone is saying publicly what so many world leaders have been thinking for some time, already, while wasting so much time, energy, blood, and treasure for fear of antagonizing the orange President. When you stated that Europe and the USA have different values, I was taken aback when the host suddenly felt the need to step in and try to mitigate that obvious observation. I say, obvious, as a Canadian with a front row seat to the USA, all my life, as to how little of Americans public face and cultural all you can eat buffet is even close to reality. Canadians have ALWAYS known this, even if most Americans are only beginning to realize it now. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for your insightful candor. If only more public figures around the world would publicly share this sad but similar conclusion, then we may get on with the arduous task of reshaping the world order. One with Canada, and it’s moderate, tolerant democratic values, joining the EU and democratic Asia.
